?An Amish farmer has been accepted into a probation program for first-time offenders and will have to perform community service and pay a $5,000 replacement fee for shooting a state-threatened bald eagle.

Paul A. Zook, 28, of Geist Road, Leola, was charged by the Pennsylvania Game Commission after officials said he admitted shooting the eagle for preying on his free-range chickens. According to a criminal complaint, Zook said he thought he was shooting at a hawk.

Zook told investigators he had previously shot three red-tailed hawks, according to the complaint.
