The online launch features five of the 950 manuscripts believed to have been written between 200 BC and AD 68, including the Great Isaiah Scroll, which was discovered in 1947 and is considered the best preserved and most complete.

Religious scholars say the documents provide a deeper understanding of the diversity of Jewish religious thought in the period leading up to the birth of Jesus, and how Jesus' teachings might have fit into that historical context.

?They?ve reminded everyone who isn?t a specialist of how complex the tapestry is around Christianity and Judaism around the time of Jesus,? says Richard Rosengarten, who teaches at the University of Chicago Divinity School. ?The Dead Sea Scrolls have underscored that for everyone, which is exciting and good.?

The online project represents a partnership between Google and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, which has presented the scrolls for public viewing since 1965. The scrolls exhibited at the museum are the 950 discovered in 11 caves on the northwestern shores of the Dead Sea between 1947 and 1956.

Because the scrolls were discovered by different expeditions, they are not stored in a single location. The first seven scrolls are entrusted to the Israel Museum while others are the property of other museums in Israel, Amman, Paris, as well as private collectors.

Hurricane Hilary pulled away from the western Mexico coastline this weekend, and NASA's TRMM satellite has monitored its rainfall. Hilary's heaviest rainfall is in its northwest quadrant, and falling over open ocean today, but Hilary may be headed back toward land.

NASA's Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission satellite known as TRMM passed over Hilary on Sept. 26 at 5:29 a.m. EDT and its precipitation radar instrument measured rainfall happening throughout the storm from its orbit in space. TRMM saw that most of the rainfall occurring in Hurricane Hilary today was moderate, and the heaviest area was limited to its northwestern quadrant where rain was coming down at 2 inches/50 mm per hour.

TRMM also has the ability to measure cloud heights, which indicate the power within a hurricane. The higher the towering clouds around the eye, usually the stronger the power within the hurricane. TRMM noticed that the highest cumulonimbus (thunderstorm) clouds in the center were around 14 kilometers (8.6 miles). Towering clouds that height are indicative of a lot of power in the storm.

Ferguson (13-3) credited his movement against the southpaw as the reason offense worked so well.

"We worked a lot of slipping [punches]. We worked really hard on fighting a southpaw," said Ferguson, who likes be down at lightweight. "I feel kind of skinny. I have some more ripples in my stomach. It's kind of cool, but I think this a nice little home for me."

It was a tough night for the veteran Riley, who first fought in the UFC back in 2002 at UFC 137. He'd been away from active fighting since May of 2010 nursing injuries. 'Awkward.' Star Ashley Rickards Flees Cops, On 'When I Was 17'

MTV actress recalls hilariously mistaking police car's flashing lights for brake lights on Saturday's episode.

Ashley Rickards, the star of MTV's "Awkward.," can probably sympathize with her character, Jenna, whose many FML moments include having her classmates mistake an injury for a failed suicide attempt. On Saturday's episode of "When I Was 17," she recalls a hilarious run-in with the law that sounds like it was ripped from the comedy series.

"I was driving around my neighborhood ... stop at the stop sign and there's a cop behind me and his brake lights went on," Ashley remembers in the episode airing Saturday at 11 a.m. ET/PT. "It was a stop sign — the brake lights are going to go on.

"So I keep going down the road; half a mile ... a mile. Then all of a sudden, the sirens go off," she says.

While most people would agree that the blaring of a police car siren is quite possibly one of the most terrifying sounds on the planet, the suddenly panicked Ashley was sure she hadn't done anything wrong.

"So I pull over and he says, 'Do you realize I've been trying to pull you over for the past mile?' I'm like, 'No I just heard the sirens now.' And he was like, 'I didn't have the sirens on. I was flashing my lights.' I felt like such an idiot," she laughs.

"She didn't understand that the red on the top lights were different than the brake lights," explains Lisa, Ashley's mom, explains.

But the "Awkward." star still swears to this day that there were no blue lights flashing, just "exclusively the red ones." Honest mistake, Ashley. Brake lights can totally be on the top of a car too, right? Or something?

"When I Was 17" — this week featuring Wyclef Jean and Ashley Rickards — airs on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Picture a world without paper money or credit cards. You've got your smartphone in your pocket, and that's it. Want to pay for something?

Walk up to the register, have the clerk check you out, and then tap your phone to the front of the register. The register picks up some data on your phone, and you're automatically paid for. No sliding card, no pulling out cash; just tapping your phone to the register.

All of this is made possible thanks to technology called Near Field Communication (NFC) and Google Wallet. Today, Google Wallet became available to the public, and if you're in the right place, you can use it to pay for your stuff.

How does Google Wallet work?
Google Wallet works by communicating with the checkout terminal when you go to pay for goods or services. When you tap your phone to the register, your phone sends wireless data to the store, and if your phone is unlocked (with a secret PIN only you know), your products are paid for. Other than that, the transaction works just like any other electronic payment. There's no cash involved, but you might have to sign something at some retailers (just like you do now). Once the transaction is done, you'll see it be deducted from your bank account. Google Wallet can also take advantage of daily deals, and even sync up to your rewards card.

Right now Google Wallet only works with a Citi MasterCard credit card you've put in, or with existing money you've put into a Google Prepaid Card. As an added bonus for early adopters, if you get a Google Prepaid Card before the end of the year, you'll get an extra $10 deposited courtesy of Google.

When can I use it?
The Google Wallet app is only available for the Sprint Nexus S 4G. This means it's not usable by everyone just yet, but Google plans to expand it to more phones as time goes on. They're still testing; so sit tight if you don't have a Nexus S 4G.

And while MasterCard is the only credit card that'll currently work with the system, Visa, Discover, and American Express have come onboard as well recently, meaning that soon everyone's credit cards and check cards should be working with the system.

Of course, to use Google Wallet you'll need to find a place that accepts it as payment. Right now your best bet is to find a store that has a MasterCard PayPass kiosk. Take a look at your checkout register the next time you're at the grocery store or gas station; you might see some PayPass wording, and that means that you're good use Google Wallet. The initial rollout of Google Wallet has had testing done in San Francisco and New York, so you might have the best luck to try it out in those cities.

What does the future hold for Google Wallet?
As we've already mentioned, Google Wallet is soon going to be hooking up with Visa, Discover, and American Express to expand their credit card list. When that happens the number of people available to use Google Wallet will expand dramatically, and we should see its usage increase.

Along with the expansion in credit card types, expect to see Google Wallet come to a variety of different platforms and phones quickly. Even though Google is only rolling out things on Sprint's Nexus S 4G, it's just for the initial testing. It won't remain on Sprint alone forever. Current iPhones don't have NFC technology, but it's entirely possible future models might.

The other end of all this is retailers accepting NFC payments. This too should start to happen more often, although when it will become as common place as a credit card terminal is anyone's guess. Keep your eye out for it, and give it a try when you get the chance!

LONDON (AP) ? Sudanese twins born with the tops of their heads joined together have been separated in a rare and risky series of operations at a London children's hospital, officials said Sunday.

Facing the World, a charity which helps disfigured children, said it had helped fund the four-stage operation on 11-month-olds Rital and Ritag Gaboura. Twins born joined at the head are known as craniopagus twins and they occur in about one in 2.5 million births.

Separating them can be dangerous, especially if ? as in this case ? there's significant blood flow between their brains.

"Incidences of surviving twins with this condition is extremely rare," lead surgeon David Dunaway said in a statement released by the charity. "The task presented innumerable challenges and we were all very aware of our responsibilities to the family and these two little girls."

The charity released before and after photographs of the girls. The before photo showed the two sprawled out on a bed, with their heads joined just above the hairline to form what appeared to be a single, solid unit. Facing the World said that separation took place in stages at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital, with two operations in May, the insertion of tissue expanders in July and the final separation on Aug. 15.

"Within days the twins were back on the general ward interacting and playing as before," the charity said. Its executive coordinator, Sarah Driver-Jowitt, predicted that the girls' parents ? who haven't been named ? may soon return home "with two healthy, separate girls."

Although rare, operations to separate twins linked by their heads aren't unheard of. In 2004, a team of doctors at New York's Montefiore Children's Hospital separated Filipino twins in four major surgeries that took place over 10 months. In 2003, surgeons in Dallas successfully separated 2-year-old Egyptian twins joined at the head.

One of the first successful operations to separate craniopagus twins took place in 1956, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) ? "Restless," the new film from Oscar-nominated "Milk" director Gus Van Sant tells a simple tale: boy meets girl, girl dies of cancer, boy mourns girl. But in Van Sant's hands, the film is anything but a sentimental four-hankie weeper.

Anchored by strong performances from Mia Wasikowska ("Alice in Wonderland") and newcomer Henry Hopper (son of Dennis Hopper), "Restless" hits theaters on Friday playing more like an intense adolescent romance than a tragedy.

Van Sant, whose credits include "Good Will Hunting," "Drugstore Cowboy," "My Own Private Idaho," "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues," and "To Die For" spoke to Reuters about making the film and why he hates being photographed.

Q: This definitely has a touch of Romeo and Juliet and doomed young lovers about it. Was that the attraction for you?

A: "Yes, although I never thought of it as doomed love. It's more that her attraction to him is that she's trying to make the most of her last three months, so it's more about them falling in love and having fun until she goes, than wallowing in sadness with her family about the inevitable."

Q: This is Henry Hopper's first film. Were you worried that it was taking quite a risk casting him as the male lead?

A: "When you need an actor to convincingly play 17 (years-old), there aren't that many young stars out there -- just a handful. And there wasn't this big need to cast star names in this. Mia was already established and she was in "Jayne Eyre" and going to star in "Alice in Wonderland," and when I met Henry I knew he was just right for the part and for playing opposite Mia. So it wasn't a huge risk."

Q: Did you know he was Dennis Hopper's son when you met?

A: "I did, and I think he looks a lot like Dennis and he obviously inherited a lot of his acting genes."

Q: Mia and Dennis have great screen chemistry. Can you fake that as a director, or is it just a magical quality that's either there or not?

A: "It's a very elusive quality and something definitely happens on screen, but not even in front of your eyes. And it doesn't even mean that the people necessarily even get along. There's some great screen-chemistry couples that, in some cases, do not get along at all. So it's not a factor, whether they even like each other or not. It's that when they're on screen, something just happens between them, and you always hope for it but you can't control it or force it. And I've never cast for screen chemistry. I've always allowed the characters to just work their way into it. That said, I really feel that Mia and Henry do have it."

Q: Is it true that you often shoot scenes silently, without the dialogue?

A: "Yes, I started with 'Milk' when Sean Penn told me that Terry Malick worked that way. It's a very interesting way to shoot, with actors expressing everything but the words, and it gives you all this great footage you can edit together for reaction shots and so on."

Q: You've always liked period pieces, and this seems like another one, even though it's contemporary.

A: "You're right. Partly I think it's because it was set in Maine originally, and we moved it to Portland, Oregon, where I live, and both places are a little bit anachronistic already. The classic Maine character sounds like someone out of the '20s. And even though it's set today, the kids don't have computers, they're not on their cell phones all the time, he rides the bus, and they wear vintage clothing because it's just more affordable."

Q: Being based in Portland, do you ever feel outside the Hollywood loop?

A: "Not really. It's nice being based somewhere like Portland where you're outside the whole Hollywood scene. I've lived there a long time and it suits me."

Q: Ironically, even though you're a film director, you hate being photographed, right?

A: "It's true, and as I grow older I hate it more and more, as I don't think I look very good on camera. So it's a vanity thing." (laughs)

Nicotine could be put on list of banned substances

GENEVA (AP) ? The World Anti-Doping Agency can take the first steps toward classifying nicotine as a performance-enhancing drug on Saturday, when it meets to update its list of substances prohibited in sport.

WADA has received a report from its accredited laboratory in Lausanne, Switzerland, that describes "alarming evidence" of nicotine use by athletes across 43 sports studied.

"WADA and sport federations should evaluate the inclusion of nicotine to the Prohibited List or/and Monitoring Program," the Lausanne lab reported after a year-long study published by the Forensic Science International journal.

The performance-enhancing effects of nicotine included increased "vigilance and cognitive function," and reduced stress and body weight.

"Interestingly, nicotine also triggers a significant increase of pulse rate, blood pressure, blood sugar and epinephrine release owing to simultaneous stimulant and relaxant properties," the report said.

"Smokeless tobacco is a very attractive drug from a doping perspective," researchers suggested, because it did not damage an athlete's breathing and respiratory system.

The WADA ruling panel is meeting in Lausanne to weigh changes in the status of doping products and methods that will come into force in January.

Nicotine is among a number of readily available substances, including caffeine and Viagra, to have been evaluated for potential doping effects. Tests on 2185 urine samples in Lausanne found 15 percent of athletes actively used nicotine, compared to 25 percent of the general population.

However, athletes in ice hockey, gymnastics, rugby and skiing rated as above-average users of nicotine, while 19 percent of soccer players samples showed traces "before or/and during sport practice."

The report stated that "these statistics bring a very significant support to the hypothesis of smokeless tobacco use as a performance enhancer."

The Lausanne lab's study followed initial research involving players at the 2009 ice hockey world championships played in Switzerland, which showed nearly half were active nicotine users.

Its claims of nicotine's performance-enhancing qualities have been disputed by golfers, who face increased testing after their sport was included on the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics program.

"There is no drug proven that benefits golf," Darren Clarke, the British Open champion, said this month at a tournament in Switzerland.

Clarke and his European Ryder Cup teammates Miguel Angel Jimenez and Thomas Bjorn regularly smoke on the golf course.

WADA can monitor a substance ahead of inclusion on the prohibited list if it meets two out of three criteria for inclusion ? enhancing performance, damaging health and breaching the spirit of clean sport.

The report states that nicotine meets all three.

CBS's "The Early Show" taped these six women, who are part of the "Fatigues to Fabulous" campaign, getting all dolled up for their runway walks. The women, who are all currently veterans, are hoping to raise awareness of the sacrifices that American female military vets -- all 1.8 million of them -- make and the issues they face.

One issue they certainly don't have is keeping their looks. These six women look totally gorgeous as they hit the stage at Lincoln Center for their latest duty: modeling.
